Carl Yench has 17 years’ experience in the tile industry. He has expertise in the specialised areas of swimming pool tiling and installation, importing and designing/developing mosaics, stone, adhesive/grout, waterproofing systems, and porcelain products to suit the Australian standards for tiling requirements pertaining to AS3958.1-2007 (Ceramic tiles Guide to the installation of ceramic tiles) and BCA (Building code of Australia) for each product respectively. Having worked specifically in the swimming pool sector for the past 17 years, Carl spent many years working to identify and study various tile failures relating to swimming pool tiling techniques, selected tiles, adhesive/grout system, construction methods and environmental conditions. As a result of the various findings, Carl collaborated with industry affiliates including Laticrete, Mapei, Ardex, CTA, Davco, Litokol, Construction chemicals to develop installation specifications relating to the Australian standards and adhesive properties and limitations. Over the years Carl has developed a deep understanding of AS3958.1-2007 including its pitfalls and limitations on recommendations. Carl was elected to represent the Swimming Pool and Spa Association (SPASA) as a member of Australian Standards Committee BD-044 revising the AS3958.1/3958.2 from 2019 -2020, providing 2 years of service and input towards revising AS 3958.1-2007 including Appendix E WET CONDITIONS (CONTINUOUSLY IMMERSED).
