Carlos Morgan, Morgan Pools

From humble beginnings as a general plasterer on arrival into New Zealand in 1970 Carlos Morgan has become a household name in the swimming pool industry. From stumbling into plastering pools to being the preferred bespoke concrete swimming pool builder by the most prestigious architects and designers in New Zealand many people have experienced the enjoyment of owning a Morgan pool. When Carlos established Morgan Pools Limited in 1979 he set out to intentionally target the high-end market. His rationale was that this end of the market seemed immune to the vagaries of fluctuating economies and “recessions” and that had to be good for his business, and it was, and still is today. Carlos’s approach to everything he touched in the pool industry was bathed in quality and elegance. Even the Morgan Pools logo demonstrated the unique approach Carlos had for his business. Instead of showing a cliché water blue with swimming pool with swimmers splashing and pumps on promotional materials his central icon was Aquarius the Greek astrological water bearer, alongside a single photo of a beautifully completed pool without any distractions but his finished creation and the landscape it is set. In 2018 he passed the baton of Morgan Pools and all it stood for to its new owners, and the tradition of quality and elegance continues. Although Carlos has moved toward the enjoyment of retirement he can still be found consulting to homeowners, builders and designers, and also listening to and encouraging pool building professionals across the industry. It is with heartfelt honour, as the current custodians of Morgan Pools, that we nominate Carlos & Sandra Morgan for this award acknowledging his service to the industry.
